On your basic seam I recommend around 1/8". On this seam you don't want your stitches too close because it will weaken the fabric too much and you also don't want the stitches too far apart because the seam will be weak. 1/8 is what I use.

For your top stitches you can choose whatever looks good to you. Personally for me with size 92 thread I use around 1/8". With thicker thread it looks better with a longer stitch length. It really all depends on the look your going for.

How old is your machine? My machine is very sensitive to messing around with thread tension and I have to manually adjust stitch length no dial on this unit. I encourage you to look at those stitches closely on the top stitches. I could see what John was talking about with thread tension too tight. I sewed some pleats and was like errrrrr.

I just got mine back in February, I bought the Fabricator from Sailrite after seeing John's review of it. I have noticed the stitch length changes when I am doing scrolls but I may be hanging onto the material to hard because I'm trying to stay on the line. I started hand cranking in the tight curved areas and stitch length remains constant so I think I was holding the material back with the motor running because I couldn't go as fast as the machine wanted to go.

Thanks @BigRig but I'm still not ready for the money shot! I will post some of my scrolls today or tomorrow. I've run out of scrap vinyl now all I have is the real deal, man I'm nervous!!

Time to put my big boy pants on sew. I'm going to take the advice a man told me years ago when I was going to do my chopped top on a car, he saw me looking and thinking and looking at it some more then he finally said "cut it!!, if you screw up then you'll have a very nice flower pot."

It won't be too much longer and I'll be putting 'er in the big hole and dropping the hammer on this Fabricator Mochine and running some bobbins out 10-4! Bring 'er on back in there BigRig!

Were all excited to see the finished result.

I didn't have much material to practice with so I was just trying out as many fundamentals as I could with what I had so I could get a handle on this contraption they call a sewing machine. Y'all ever heard of one of these? LOL.

Now remember needle down and keep the foot off the gas. Sewing some pretty nice pleats then I remember John saying they look better if you can sew them faster. I will not show you how fast you can lose your stitching.

Hey@John, yes I tried to make a mock up with scraps I had. You made my day...... My practice resembled something you could recognise!
