I am being told this is a collector car so the repair needs to be consistent with the original interior fabrication. I plan to just remove and replace the foam, but not familiar with what foam should be used.

Is it better to attach the foam to the vinyl and then to the plastic, or attach it to the plastic and then to the vinyl?

Can you just glue a 1" topper pad or does all the foam need to be replaced?

This is on a Shelby Mustang door panel, both door panels. The owner wants to keep it as close to factory as possible. I may just remove the deteriorating foam and re attach it. I found some 1/16" foam but it is a different color than the OEM. 1" is too thick, but after reviewing the photos I provided I can see where the roll of the panel may give the impression of thickness.

OOOHHHH!! Yes at first look i thought the picture was of seat foam. I see it now. That looks like closed cell foam to me on the door panel. I would think the closed cell foam you can get from your supplier would be just fine.
