Hi guys, I just bought a 2017 mazda3 and noticed that the leather from the front passenger seat is separated from the plastic piece where the headrest poles go:
I have no idea how this could have happened... I tried pulling the leather up but it's very tightly in place. Do you guys have any idea on how to fix it?
Thanks!

That is caused from the leather shrinking due to sun light exposure and not conditioning the leather with cleaner and lotion on bi yearly basis.
Unfortunately no easy way to fix it. Once leather shrinks like that there isn't a way to stretch it back out that I know of....
If I was you I would cut a piece of black vinyl and tuck it in that hole to hide the color difference between the foam and leather.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your response! Maybe if I use some sort of leather softener? Do you think that might work?

It looks like it may have had some pulling stress on that as well. I like black sharpies for this.

I dont know if that would help or not. My hunch is that softener will degrade the leather and end up looking worse

Are there any good sources for the headrest guides? I need to buy 4 sets for an aircraft upholstery job. Thanks

That sounds frustrating! I've dealt with similar issues on leather car seats before especially when the headrest guides start pulling away. A good upholstery adhesive and some careful clamping usually help reattach it cleanly. Just be sure to match the adhesive to the type of leather. Speaking of leather care, if you’re into quality materials like those used in car interiors, you might appreciate the craftsmanship behind
Western Leather Jackets too same durability, just wearable!
