@Bondo497 Thank you for the compliment! I've been doing furniture since 2012. Gotta a chance at this '33 coupe doing bench seat and these door panels. Trying to fix a panels he has trouble with and things he couldn't do that require sewing like shift boot, visors, brake handle, windlace, steering wheel and carpet binding. He told me to put his seat in my shop window and a scored a full interior in a '34 coupe if it ever gets painted. So I'm keeping my eye out for a place I can do both because I can't get a car in my current shop. Hoping to start that brake handle today.

Yeah @kl4bidn you better get another location fast with the work your turning out, you are probably going to more cars than furniture to do! Hey by the way, when you said you sanded a groove in the foam on that door panel, are you talking about the perimeter stitch line on it or did you also do it on the pleats? I'm just trying to learn all I can about what gives things certain looks. Thanks for sharing your projects and can't wait to see what the rest looks like.

@Bondo497 Did you buy John's door panel video's? I cut them out like he did in the video. I glued the foam to canvas so that I didn't have to stitch through the panel board but could cut against it. I thought I took a pix of the actual panel cut out, but this was my mock up while I was trying to cut the technique down.



Then I glued the leather to the foam, only the stitched part pressed leather into the groove.



After I retraced the lines in the groove and stitched them. Glue foam to panel, trimmed excess off, glue leather to foam and finished edges.

Much easier than my attempts to sew through the panel board on me and my machine!

@kl4bidn I must admit I did not purchase the door panel videos, I bought the apprentice and advanced courses thinking there would be enough info in those to figure out the rest so I guess it's back to school! Thanks for letting me know what you did.

@kl4bidn here is a door panel i made for a 64 vette with a similar premise. Beveled closed cell foam and sanded to give a soft edge

@kl4bidn thats a classic looking door panel right there. Customer will be thrilled. I’m glad with all the advice given and practice you got it to work out. Sometimes you have to take bits and pieces of advice from different sources and put them together to make your own method. I agree, you’ll be doing a lot of cars here soon.

@jdenison89 Really nice work on that panel! What type of foam did you use on the rest of the panel to get the taller 3d shape?
