I hoping to build a boat seat similar to the one in the picture. My seat will be flat without the fancy diamond stitching; it’s the bullnose on the front that I hope to duplicate. I want to be able to either sit on the seat, or lean in to the bullnose rounded front.

Assuming the base is plywood and the base flat, how is the foam done to make the front edge rounded while making the bottom flush with the underside of the plywood base?

Clearly I’m a total newb, so please go slow…

The foam is probably rounded at the corners. Also, the way the fabric is patterned and sewn help to ensure those rounded edges.

There could be some extra foam or batting in the none pleated sections as well to help smooth it out.

Keeping in mind I don’t even know what I don’t know, would it work to glue the main cushion to the plywood, the glue a half-round to the front?

You can glue the half round to the front if you don't want shape it out of one piece.

I see no reason to glue it to the plywood though.

Again, acknowledging that I’m mostly clueless, will the glue joint survive me climbing on an off of the seat?

I only mentioned gluing the half round to the plywood bottom because I figured a larger gluing surface would be better.

Properly done, you'd likely rip the foam before the glue joint fails.

You can always practice on some scrap. GLue up a joint, let it set for say a day, and then try and tear it apart. My bet it the foam rips fiart.

For glue, I use Weldwood Contact Adhesive...

Gluing foam together is common practice and you seem to have a good plan.
