New Sewing Machine - What do I need to get it running

Hello,

I got a good deal on this Juki 563 from FB marketplace. Came recently serviced with some spare parts. That said it didn't come with a table or foot peddle, belt etc. I have no knowledge on sewing machines aside from what I've read from the course.

What do I need to get it running?

Just off the top of my head.....

Table (cutout for your machine)
Motor (i'd suggest servo with a needle positioner)
Hinges
belt (might come with motor)
bobbin winder
Thread stand

I forgot,

If that machine has a knee lift function your gonna want to get one of those as well.

Also, both my machines have a metal oil pan attached to the table that I didn't see on any of the industrial tables I looked at in my quick search.

Pretty easy to make a oil catch pan. Frame the size out with 2.4's, soften the edges of the boards, go to Menards etc and get a preformed piece of duct work with two sides all ready bent and do the rest with a slapper, ball pein hammer etc. An oil catch pan is a must as far as I'm concerned and on my three machines I have made two of them with the other being from the original set up.

Thanks very much!

Regarding the table, are the universally sized? Do I need a specific table for the brand?

I got a quote from local supply places for $585.

It includes everything I'll need to get started. Including a lifter. Im starting to think I'm a little over my head a just have gotten a cheaper machine until I learned more.

You won’t regret it, that is a wonderful machine.
We had a similar one when I worked at a shoe repair shop, it is a workhorse

While I'm not familiar with that machine, it is an industrial model and it's a good name. You might have to pay a little more to get it up and running but in the long run starting off with a lesser machine can be more expensive or so disappointing you might get discouraged and quit. Do a goole search on "Industrial sewing machine table" and you'll find lots of options for around $200-$250. Goldstar Tool shows somw nice ones for $250. You could always try ebay or Amazon, maybe find one with free shipping. I'm not sure but the cutout should be standard, search online for some manuals, they usually have the cutout dimensions available. Wild Bill summed up what you need very well, although you could get by without a knee lift. Servo motors come two ways, analog and digital. Consew makes a great analog model, CSM-550 - get a small 45mm pulley for it. If you go digital, get either a Reliable Sewquiet 6000SM or consider looking at Sailrite Workhorse, a little more but great customer service. Again, get a small diameter pulley for nice xlow starts. I'm new at sewing and have learned a lot in a short time, sometimes having to do it twice. One thing, don't be in a hurry to get everything, do your research and ask lots of questions, just about everyone here will be willing to help.

Sounds like you're on the right track, 580 for all that isn't too bad, you could probably gather them for a bit cheaper but no need to pull your hair out before you start stitching with it. Cutouts are not completely universal but probably 80% of machines will use the same cutout as your juki. You're already in better shape than i was starting out and buying the wrong machines, hang in there you got this

I have a spare motor and clutch that would probably fit you could have free but I’m sure the shipping would make it uneconomical.

In terms of finding a table, you might also ask in person at your local upholstery and tailor shops; I've found that people are sometimes quite willing to part with an extra table, motor or other shop equipment they aren't using and are too busy to bother marketing on facebook etc.

@Fellsy , look for sales on non walking foot industrials and if one comes up for $100 that fits your machine you are in business. If it comes with a clutch use it and get good with it until you go servo if you feel you want one.
