This is a practice piece of a corner I want to do for an ottoman. It's a little hacked up but it's the way I want the seams to come together on the corner of the ottoman. The only way I could get the topstitching close to what I wanted was to clip the corners and glue it down with contact cement. Any other ways to approach this corner detail and still have it look the same on the outside?

@sandmanred There is nothing wrong with what you did. Anything that helps you keep your selvedge accurate is good whether you staple it, glue it, or use basting tape. It is all good.

The fellows who do this for a living are racing the clock to make a living. They probably don't do a lot of that but working 8 hours a day their skills are honed to a point, they don't need to. I can do a decent job sewing panels together but I can't assemble my piping, join it to the band, and sew it to he insert all at the same time. A skilled professional trimmer can though. Whatever you can do to help you keep everything aligned is fair game. The end result is what matters for those of us who do this as a hobby. Not the time we spent doing it.

One thing more. It looks to me like maybe you could tighten your tension a bit. It looks to me like your stitches may be pulling open just a tad.

I agree, if the outside looks how you want it, and sewn so it won’t fall apart, the inside can look however it has to. I wouldn’t over think it. The result looks good
