hi,

I purchased this cup holder insert for like 8 bucks on ebay, I have a chevy car that has a rear seat fold down with no cup holder in it. I want to know the basics of cutting the fabric, foam and inserting this cup holder and glue to use.

can anyone help. I did some online research and watched some videos and saw I should cut out the shape I need slightly smaller so it snug fits as well as radial cut the edges of the fabric so it folds down.

next I read up on glue options, but it seems I really need to know what type of foam I have so to choose the right glue so they are compatible.

any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

I think you’re on the right track. If it were me, I’d remove the arm rest cover. Mark the foam where I want to remove the material and do that. Like you said, keeping it smaller so it’s snug. I would then put the cover back one and cut an X shape in the material where the cup holder goes. Cut the x leaving your lines about 1/2” from the edge so they don’t show later. Using DAP landau top glue, I’d glue the x flaps down to the inside of your cutout to the foam. Don’t pull too tight on the material or it’ll round your edges too much on the foam and look bad. Then glue in your cup holder using the same glue. Sand the area of the cup holder where you add glue so it sticks.

Yep exactly what Cody said! Only thing to add would be make sure to add some extra glue to the edges of your cuts because that fabric will unravel if you dont seal the edges.
