After watching the video on laying out the material for hidden stitch pleats I have a question. If I use 1/4” scrim instead of 1/2” would I reduce the fold allowance from 7/8” to maybe 1/2” and stitch about 1/4” from the fold rather than 3/8”? Does that make sense?

I don’t have a lot of experience here but we were always told to fold and sew so the original stitch is hidden, and duplicate that for everyone. Never really taught to have a measurement. Picked what we thought looked good. But the more you have underneath when it’s all said and done, the more bulk you have to hide if that makes sense.

Usually with most 1/4 foam you dont get any shrinkage in the panel when sewing pleats. The 7/8 FA on half inch is accounting for the 3/8" fold and 1/8 shrinkage. On 1/4" foam your FA will most likely be 3/4". I would do a test piece first though. Great question @Pgnelson45 ! I should have elaborated more on that in the video.

@pgnelson45, I really like doing hidden stitch pleats and will be on the same project thinking I may use 1/4 scrim depending on the health of the foam under my cover when I remove them.
