Hi guys

New to this forum and new to the upholstery business. Thinking about learning myself upholstery. Can someone tell me if the brother ls2-b837 is a good sewing machine?

Will only be used for automotive interiors and maybe some dog collars

Hey @PeterOlsson! Welcome to the forum!!!

The brother ls2-b837 is a really good machine for this type of upholstery. The main thing you need for this type of upholstery is a walking foot machine and that model is a walking foot. The only thing you may want to budget in is purchasing a servo motor to make it easier for you to learn and control. You can get universal ones for around $150+

Hope this helps! I look forward to seeing your future projects.

@John. Thanks for your input. Yeah I'll look forward to test it. Also fount that the price is really competitive at around 1300 usd. It already has a 230v servo and I am based in Europe so that is perfect.

The place that had the brother sold it unfortunately. Will keep an eye open and see if I can find something similar used or if I have to buy a new adler 267 :grinning:

I don't know that my meager budget would allow for a new Adler but I have had a used Adler 267 for a number of years. It with a Reliable 5000 servo motor has been an excellent machine and served me well.

The only disappointment I have had is the cost and availability of parts and service in my area. I recently ordered two standard feet from China ($26ea) with the intent to modify them for cording and zipper feet.

@John Long , you have been doing your work with that machine and may just run into a world of headaches with new equipment. What is your gig? What do you do mostly with that machine?

@BigRig if you mean me my object is to learn about auto upholstery and be able to fix my own cars. I see an opening where I live in Sweden.

I personally will never own a new machine. The used Adler 267 was well serviced and in great shape when I got it. It will last me the rest of my life for sure.

I have always built cars no one else would fool with but 3-4 hours in the shop is my day on the gulf course. If I spend 5 years building a car, it does not bother me. My sewing is strictly recreational. I enjoy metal forming, paint and body, as well as upholstery. You know what they say. Jack of all trades, master of none. :worried:

Peter, I don't know how it is in Sweden but here in the states, you should be able to find a good compound feed machine for 800-1000 bucks with a little patience. Personally, I would prefer a good used machine rather than a new Chinese built machine. Keep looking, I am sure you will find something that suits you.

@John Long
Yea I have now located a Singer 211 g 266 for ca 800 usd incl shipping. From a company that makes boat covers etc. It's recently been serviced and I think this is a fairly good deal. Walking foots are not easy to find here for that money. Thanks

Yes this is a good machine for automotive upholstery. Any machine that is a walking foot will work good for you.
