Have a 1955 chevy sedan and I am looking for some type of deck padding material (in addition to burlap) for seat bottoms to prevent seat foam from pushing between the seat springs. Originally GM used a combo of burlap and thin padding interlaced with thin wire (called a permalator) to accomplish this. I have searched high and low and all I can find are references to material that does not exist (laminated deck skin and Flex Pad).

I have found a product called ply/cotton deck padding that comes in 1/4". I think this may be for furniture. So, my question is this: What can I use over the burlap to privide a strong, relatively thin protective layer between burlap and foam?

Maybe old school or not accepted but how about landscape fabric?

Most cars of that era just just burlap over the springs only. They didn’t have a layer between the burlap and the foam. But I think some people use muslin ask an alternative...maybe

I have been using regular upholstery vinyl that I buy from the 10 yard discount section on Albrights website to protect the foam from the seat springs. Seems to work well and be inexpensive.

Yep I use cheep vinyl as well! Only reason to use burlap is if your required to be 100% original. Other wise Burlap it awful and breaks down quickly and makes a mess on your carpet every time you sit in the seat.
