Adrian Pearsall wave rocking lounger HELP!

I’m in the process of reupholstering an Adrian Pearsall wave rocking lounger. I need to clarify that I am an ambitious amateur...so far I have torn the old materials off and have the base done. I am in process of making the cushion cover and I’m starting to get concerned about having lots of wrinkles on the finished project. I’ve seen completed new upholstery that has barely a single wrinkle in the fabric and I’m wondering if anyone has any tips on getting the smoothest finish. The photo is the original chair and one that has been re-done already.

I think the eat best is to cut your top and bottom pieces in the rectangle. Easy enough. But the border strip that goes around the cushion should be cut to match the shape of the cushion as it sits on the frame. So the Sideways S shape. If you just cut a straight strip and sew it on, then put the cushion to final shape, the material with pull and push in spots creating wrinkles. The button tufts should help pull the material a bit to help stretch. Granted I hardly work with cloth vs vinyl, so I’m thinking from working with that.

Yes I agree with Cody. Great explanation! Make sure to make alignment marks for your self as well.

I am intrested in seeing your pattern progressions. The pattern with your alignment marks then your outcome after sewn up. It would be good for discussion here.
