Good evening all,
Hoping someone can help me out/send me in the right direction…. I just purchased a rear fender for my Harley and it came with the bucket seat. Just the base of the seat. So I had to add foam and shape It. Now this is my first time doing this so don’t judge me from the pics
Like to have a go at things myself first to see if I can do it, lol.
So the foam is on the seat and shaped. I am stumped at covering it with the vinyl. Not sure how to do it without having folds on the sides. Or even how to attach it. I have attached some pics. Remember it’s my first upholstery project, lol. The base it just a piece of fiberglass.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

really hard for me to say based on the pics (as I'm pretty green at upholstery still) but the way I see it the vinyl will need to be patterned and sewn with multiple pieces and maybe even a pull to keep it down in the butt area.

Not sure if staples will hold in the fiberglass.. If not then perhaps glue?

Looks like you are on the right path. Make a pattern out of the piece you have shown on the back side of the vinyl to plan to use. I usually add 1/2" around the pattern you made as seam allowance. I think I would make that top and back in 2 pieces. Make a pattern for yours sides or skirts with the same 1/2" allowance where you are going to be sewing. Then add maybe an inch or more to fold under the bottom of seat. I would probably use 3/8" staples on the fiberglass. That is what I use on Harley seats and Sea Doos with no problem. You will need a good stapler. Hope this helps.

Thank you both for the advice. Like I said, appreciate every bit I get. Was hoping to be able to do this myself. Guessing not if I have to use a sewing machine, lol. Never used one before. Was thinking I could do this without having to cut it up and sewing into sections. My mother used to sew. Maybe I can get her to try and do It for me. What thread would be used for this type application? Would it need to be double stitched?

I would use a V 92 bonded polyester for the main stitching. And either a 138 or 207 if you want a top stitch. A top stitch is not only decorative but also adds a bit of strength to the seam.

It sounds like you were hopingto wrap that seat. In that case you may want to try a 4 way stretch material. Morbern Alsport may be an option. Otherwise you are going to have to cut and sew.
