I’ve been dabbling in a bit of upholstery work for other people after successfully doing the upholstery in my 46 Chevy thanks to John’s course.
I’ve been asked to reupholster two front seats from a Morris Minor. They’re quite small and relatively simple but I have absolutely no idea how much to charge.
I could charge an hourly rate but I’m sure it’ll take me a lot longer than someone more experienced.

Anyone knowledgeable in these things like to offer some guidance.

Thank you
Bob

Unfortunately that is a hard question to answer. There’s not a right or wrong answer. It depends a lot on the area you are in, your overhead, what you feel your time is worth and what quality you are putting out.
A simple seat may take 2 hours for one person but 4 for another. The average shop owner will charge anywhere from $60-$120 per hour depending on all those things. You have to figure out what you feel your time and skill set is worth. It looks like you’re just getting started so you will take longer than a seasoned pro, maybe look at just pricing the job as a whole until you start figuring out how long it takes you. I did plenty of jobs in the beginning where I ended up losing money but gained valuable knowledge. For seats like those, barring any issues with the seat itself (foam, frame, etc) I’d probably quote $400 each plus material. Someone else may be at $600 though, just depends on all those factors mentioned.
