I recently decided to do something different in one of my hot rods . Painted the car Majestic Purple and the interior in a lighter purple. I know the scheme is not for everyone to like. But like it or hate it, it gets remembered and has landed me a couple of jobs.

Good Job, That is a LOT of purple.
The work is amazing, I have not attempted the double diamond yet.. Do you have a double needle machine.
That's a lot of double diamonds.

Just a single needle machine. Really the double is more forgiving than is the single. Stitches don't have to be quite as straight and it is so busy they don't show up. I know where is wobble is.
Thanks for good job compliment.

Wow must have taken an eternity to double stitch all those diamonds! Lots of patience and dedication here!

It took about 3.5 hours for layout and stitching each door panel. The good thing since it was mine I didn't have to rush. When I had customer stuff I just put mine away. Oh ya, I made floor mats to match. They just cover the carpet and just used for shows. I remove them for driving

Ya I figured it would be around that time per panels. When it's for yourself, it's nice to take the time and materialize that vision. So you drew straight on the vinyl, you used masking tape or drew lines on a sheet of paper and sewed over? Can I see those mats cover? Cheers!

I have made straight edges the proper width for diamonds, double spaced diamonds and pleats. With them once I get the first diamond placed, no more measuring is needed. They are made from door cards Makes the layout quicker for me. I either use chalk pens with wheels or a silver marking pen to mark the lines. The chalk pens work okay but wipe away lots of times before I get all the sewing done. I will take a couple of photos of the floor mats later today.

I agree, chalk lines are easily wipeable. Must have been a pretty satisfying to see it coming along. Looking forward to see those mat covers! Cheers

I kinda did the same thing although I have different width metal rulers I used to keep the spacing the same without having to measure each one.
Also, (and maybe I'm doing it wrong) I did all my marking on the under side on the scrim foam with a fine point sharpie. I then sew it up side down.
Have yet to try the double diamond. Hope it comes out as nice as yours when I do.

I'm no professional upholster but I would be a little stressed to sew upside down. You'll have to dial down your bobbin tension to perfection so you have a clean/crisp stitch because it's the bobbin side that'll show. That and if a miss stitch or nest happens you won't know it until you're done with the one stitch and turn over your work to have a visual on it. If it's on fabric, it's easily repairable but leather or vinyl it's a different story... Also you may mark vinyl or leather with the machine feeder Just my 2 cents!

Here is a couple shots of the mats. They have 1/4" sew foam instead of 1/2 like the seats and panels. Not used when driving or with a passenger.
For display only. Strange how it looks like different shades of purple in photos when they all came from same roll.

Oh ya, that's a great idea for shows that way you don't show up up a pristine interior and dirty mats!
