I have this dumb idea in my head that light blue carpet would look good in this car. Or, light grey. Originally it would have had just bound ribbed rubber mats, even on the transmission tunnel. I’ve seen many ten of these cars and nobody uses the original mats, they all use carpet. The previous owner used a golden colored carpet which not only looked cheap, it smelled like mold and all went in the dumpster :)

I agree and think the light blue carpet would look good and make it stand out. Or red in a close shade to the seats

I like the idea of light blue too. I suspect there aren't a lot of light blue shades to choose from. While reading your post, I thought of a color wheel. Have you considered using a color wheel for contrasting shades that will complement the red?

It’s expensive but it’s 80% wool so hopefully it will be good quality stuff. I’ve tried cheap carpet before and the carpet binder would chew the edge off the carpet.

A color wheel does say these colors look good together…. But seriously how often do you see a blue car with burgundy interior? It’s pretty odd.

I’ve seen lots of these cars with contrasting color binding but I think it looks too busy. Going to try either the color matched vinyl binding they sell, or Sailrite has lots of Sunbrella colors.

It’s coming out pretty. The carpet is “Wilton III” Lt Blue 629 from GAHH.com. The binding is Ocean Blue from twilltape.com. Binder is from Sailrite (overpriced but works). Machine is an ancient Mitsubishi DU-105

Annnnd… we’re done. I was afraid it looked a little loud until I got the seats in. Now I like it! The front seats are 30 years old but haven’t seen much use. The rest is 70 year old original stuff.

I'm not following what you mean when you say "the binder is from Sailrite".
