Windlace and tack strips

Having trouble understanding how to attach the windlace to the tack strip, so that you can’t see the edge of the strip.
I’m using 4mm plywood for the tack strip, as ABS plastic is crazy expensive here in Australia.
So, I screw the plywood to the car, up the A pillar, across the top, and down the B pillar.
Then I staple the windlace to the plywood.
Then I cover the inside with the kick panel, or suspended headliner.
Looks great from inside the car, but from the outside you can see the edge of the plywood.
The only thing I can think of is to wrap the plywood in vinyl, before screwing it to the car.
Does that sound right, or is there a better way to do it?

If the plywood can't be trimmed so it is not visible from the outside, probably wrapping it partially is your only option. Photos may help for more options.

Thanks @LLeeT no photos as I haven’t done it yet. Just trying to figure out the best method. But thank you. I think wrapping the ply will be best

There should be no reason that the tack strip is visible when finished. I think maybe your plywood is standing a little tall past the channel it fits in. I would shave it down flush.
