I am new to upholstery and the forum but have a wide background in traditional craft and use of hand tools. One of my first jobs was for a guy making motorcycle jackets and other garments in leather. He taught me how to sew and the machines were Pfaff industrial walking foot machines. By a roundabout route many years later I have wound up sat back in front of a sewing machine with some auto upholstery on my plate, specifically the upholstery for a guy doing up old vw campers. What a great time to learn skills with the amazing resources available on the internet. So in searching for info about backing scrim foam for seat covers I found this forum. I am using the skills from my background: sewing, pattern making, bit of art skill and having a go at teaching myself enough to earn a bit of money doing up these camper vans. I’ll post an image of the fancier bit of the last job I did which has an element of artistry but is also just a basic cushion by way of an introduction. (The design was specified by the customer, all I did was interpret it into “vinyl” and clean it up a bit. I put vinyl in quotes because that seems to be the colloquial term I grew up using for car seat material but I the product I used was Ambla Chieftain range, mostly.)
