Quilting foam

Hi all, don't know if anyone is from the UK here but anyone may be able to help. My current supplier have changed there scrim foam I used for my squabs when I was adding the decorative quilting. The foam they used to supply had a lot more density to it so made the pattern stand out more, the new foam is rubbish I mean you look at it and it flatterns out. We've all watched the guy on YouTube and he uses a 6mm but can't seem to find what that is. What do other upholstery lads or lasses use?
Regards
George

Scrim foam here in the us comes in a few differend qualities. The pink scrim is considered to be the best. I am not sure what is available in the UK.
I would call up the guys at Martrim and see if they have any suggestions.

I use 5 different suppliers for various items, leather, leatherette, sundries and all supply the same foam apart from the one I used to buy. Martrim supply the same as the rest but more expensive. From what I've found in the time I've had my upholstery company there's 3 types of scrim in the UK..... I may be wrong so pls correct me. But theres dark grey medium grey and light grey which is the one I find has more density and the one I'm trying to find again

Hi George,
I'm based in the UK too and know exactly what you mean. I used to get my scrim foam from this ebay shop (
https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/diyfoamupholsterysupplies) but it was very much pot luck which density you'd get. They definitely sent me the light grey foam you speak of which gave much more defined pleats.
The martrim foam is the less dense medium/dark foam.
I've recently started using Boyriven (boyriven.co.uk) for some of my upholstery supplies so it might be worth giving them a go? The do 12mm foam, instead of the 10mm that everyone else seems to supply, so I might give that a go when my current supply runs out. Even if it's not as dense the extra 2mm might make all the difference.
Let me know if you do find a reliable source of the more dense foam too!

Hope you guys are able to find an alternative! That's really frustrating when suppliers change their products like that.
