Any tips on using welting on door panels?
I made a practice panel with a design I had in mind, with some welting top and bottom of a curved section, but when it came time to wrap it around the 3mm sheet, the welting is very bulky.
I used 1/8th inch black plastic welt cord from the upholstery shop. It’s quite stiff. Should I have used softer cord, or is welting on door panels generally a bad idea?

Cut the welt out. Take out right at the edge, before it rolls over the edge.

You can certainly use welt on door panels. Youll want to do two things.
One is exactly what Rug Dr said. Cut the welting cord to the size of the door panel. I prefer to actually cut it slightly shorter than that for a smother transition from where the cord ends and the edge of the panel.
Second is to notch out the door panel edge to allow the thickness of the seam allowance. This will make the edge of the panel completely flush and you wont see the bulk of the seam allowance.
