Hi - I'm trying to reupholster some G Plan 'Fresco' dining chairs (I can't seem to upload a pic - but this is an example: https://www.mistywoodchairs.co.uk/vinta ... ng-chairs/), but am really struggling with the chair backs. I would love some advice.

They're polished wood on one side, and fabric with foam/wadding on the other, with piping around the edges.

How would you go about attaching the fabric so that the wood back is still fully exposed?! It looks like the seams were previously stapled and nailed on the inside (i.e. no staples showing from the outside, and only nails on the underside where I imagine it was closed up). I've tried stapling the seams inside (and inserting foam after this), but can't get the gun in to do the sides, nor can I hammer any nails in.

I'm stuck, and there doesn't appear to be anything in my guidance books/on youtube which explains how to fix fabric on the inside of a chair back when you don't want to affix it to the outside.

I am not sure because I dont do a lot of furniture. My guess is that staples were shot between the cover and the large welting. Using the welt to hide the staples.

I had a few pings from this site to my website and I found your question.
Someone else (from Australia) contacted me a while back with the same question so I thought I’d and post the answer I sent him. It was easier to explain in a mock-up. (I couldn’t find the original photo so these are a bit blurred).
Not shown in the pictures:
• Measure circumference of the backrest and cut the piped fabric to size - a few inches longer for the seam allowance so you can sew it together - to make a continuous circle of piped fabric. Then fit it around the back rest with the stitched edge/seam placed underneath with the seam centred in the middle to hide it.

You posted a while ago now so I expect you’ve worked it out already.
