Hey guys, I have been watching the video series, trying to wrap my head around it all. Today was the first day we decided to make the move to start actually sewing. That grandiose dream came to a screeching halt this morning when the machine was making a mess of the upper thread in the bobbin case area.

Background: I bought the machine used locally. Of course, not knowing anything about machines, I was at risk. The guy did sew with it, so I think it isn't catastrophic.

I routed all of my thread per the Pfaff manual and a few youtube videos. Loaded the bobbin as per the manual. The hook comes around and grabs the upper thread but it winds it around the case a couple of times, then breaks the thread. I disassemble everything and clean it all out and start over.

Any ideas?

I would love to do great things,today but this is a show stopper.

Sounds to me like you aren't holding both threads taunt before starting to sew. If you dont hold the threads taunt they will get tangled up in the bobbin hook.
