Hi, I’m a newbie. I’m an experienced woodworker who wants try making upholstered furniture. I want to make a bed and feel very competent making the wooden frame. But I’m confused by the technique in this photo. It appears that this upholstery is a tailored slip cover? It’s not simply stretched and stapled? Does anyone have any idea what this and what the substrate would be? (Plywood, MDF, etc)

Thank you.

Likely plywood with a layer of foam. I assume that the fabric has been cut where the hardware would be at the joint.

It is likely plywood and defintly foam and that is a cover made to slip over and would be stapled on the bottom of the framework.
