What methods are there to keep this shape to sew this strapping? I have some boat cushions to recover and they use it all over the place for both strapping and to trim the seam on the bottom of the seat where the seat bottom meets the boxing.

The sketch is attempting to show a cut away of the construction of the strap where the red is the vinyl and the blue is the stitch line.

That stuff is called hidem. You can find it at most upholstery suppliers in many colors.
