Hello. I'm a complete newb, so forgive my ignorance. I'm starting to purchase some equipment to play around with auto interiors. I couldn't pass up a deal on a Juki LH-515 double needle complete setup with table, oil pan, motor, etc. I want to find a similar quality single needle. My question is, can I buy another head to swap out with the current Juki setup? just remove the head and replace with the single? If so, what models can be swapped? I don't even know if perhaps other brands can be changed out. Thanks in advance.

Hi @brokersteve! Welcome to the forum!!!

I dont thing there is any reasonable way convert a double needle in to a single. If your asking is the table universal the answer is somewhat. Some machines have the same cutout but Im not sure what ones are compatible. That being said most machines are sold with their table anyways.

Also... I have never tried this but I dont see any reason you couldn't just leave out the needle and thread on one side of your double needle and use it like a single needle for the time being....

Thanks for a quick reply. My intention was to simply have two complete setups. I have enough space for both tables. I see a lot of used machines being sold as "head only", so thought if I found a single needle head that would go directly in it's place, it may save space and cost. My table has the oil pan installed, so the head would need to fit inside the table cutout, work with the level of oil in the Juki pan, etc. I would hope the comparable Juki single needle model would have the same dimensions as the double. I know I can set up the double for one needle, but I'd like to keep dedicated machines for each. Thanks again.

Ok gotcha. Yeah most of the Juki machines that are similar should fit in your table. One thing Ill bring up though is your 515 is not a walking foot. Make sure to get a walking foot machine when you get your single needle.

If you are looking for a single needle machine, you might as well buy the table and all. You will find that you use a single needle machine , a lot more than a double needle. A double needle is used for decorative stitching, and a single needle is used for sewing things together. You will find it is a pain in the ass to be constantly switching machine heads back and forth.

I have a Juki single needle and a Juki two needle and they can not be switched from table to table as the two needle has a bigger base on the head

Thanks for that. I'll stick to my original plan, to buy a complete setup with a single needle, walking foot unit. I found a good deal on a Sailrite unit that should work for me.
