I have a 2001 pickup that the leather is getting bad on the drivers bucket The insert seams are beginning to split and the outside bolster has gotten wet to many times and constant sliding over it has seen it's day . Since there is no real damage to the foam underneath now is the time to repair

My question is how do I seam these parts back together as I know I can't seam over the old seam which would be like a perforated line Do I tighten it up a little and seam 1/4"over ????

I really don't want to recover the whole seat as the truck is old but me and the dog like it , it's a pretty nice truck and I would like to keep it that way

This is a question for John that's for sure. If there was not John around to give real advice I would probably remove the cover and sew a new seam as close to the old seam as you could. This would just take your time and a bit of thread, extending the life of that seat for you and your dog a few more years.

Hey @hapyrdr. That's good your thinking to address the problem now. Most people wait till they can see the springs through the foam haha .
It depends. Is it the stitching that is ripping or is it the leather that has ripped at the seam?

If just the stitching has ripped. Its pretty easy you can just remove the cover and sew that seam up a little tighter to hide the old holes. A 1/16" to 1/8 "tighter will be plenty.

If its the leather that is torn. You could try to re-sew the seam to the leather that is still there, but it will probably look funny and probably wont last to long. In that case its best to replace that piece. This involves removing the cover and unstitching everything until you can remove the old piece and sew in a new one. Its a bit of work but its not super difficult. I did a video on this method as well. It was one of my first videos so be nice

One other thing. If the leather is ripped and you have to replace it. It will make more sense to replace it with vinyl. Usually the smallest section of leather you can buy is 1/2 hide. That will cost to much for this little repair.

It's the leather that has ripped right where the seam is .Only a couple of inch's on each side but thinking about this more I think a new cover of light gray ultra leather and all of those French seams in red thread is my best plan

If still relevant, I can recommend Liquid Leather. The set consists of 7 different colors and 3 bubbles for mixing. Defects hides well, dries completely for about 2-3 days. I recommend it for redecorating leather or leatherette furniture. And there are also options here.
