I am replacing some foam on some boat seats. How much allowance should I use on the seams over new foam and how much over finished size should i cut the foam to allow for good compression and fit?

On a ply base I usually cut the foam to overhang 1/4” to 3/8” on all sides, then cut and sew the material to the size of the ply base. This allows a bit of stretch and the foam rolls over the edge protecting the material from wearing through on hard corners.
