Hi, my name is Tommy. I live in Hawaii and when ever I order a replacement part for my 55 Chevy Belair, the shipping charges are unbelievable. The shipping charges for a package tray is very high. Just wondering what type of material I can use to fabricate my own package tray. It has to be able to take the daily heat, especially the daily heat here in Hawaii. I would think that ABS Plastic would surely warp. I do plan on covering what ever material I end up using with vinyl material to match my seats. Thank you, Tommy.

I’d be tempted to build a fibreglass replacement.

I believe PVC would hold up. If you have doubts maybe putting 1/4" landau top foam on it would protect it from excess heat.

I am with you on the fabrication part and old school not computers or laser printer types.

I typically make the package trays out of hard board or 1/8 ply. That back window is like a magnifying glass. I have had ABS warp in extreme heat one time. It was horrible. Had to redo like 1/2 the interior. However it was parked in the Phoenix AZ sun with 120 heat. Most areas are not that intense.

The cars I typically do aren't daily drivers and dont get left in the sun so I still use ABS a lot. Its a great material to work with and will last forever.
