Not sure, but I believe that's caused by the type of leather needle you're using. There are a wide variety of leather sewing machine needles with the "cutting edge" oriented in different directions, and the orientation of the "slice" the needle puts in your workpiece, combined with the direction the rotary hook travels, determines how the final finished stitch looks.

Take a look at:

Thank You Blucher Some great reading.
The strange thing is that the thread was tracking fine until I switched thread. I switched back to the original thread and it went back to better tracking.(of course after a couple of hours of adjusting and checking the machine, who would of guessed the thread ?) both were 92 , but I need to check the thread details. I think one was 4oz vs 16oz?
Thanks again for your help and the links.

My dad said it used to happen to him, but he just went with it?

This is a common thing on sewing machines. Some people like that look and some dont.

The picture you posted looks like it was sew on 1 layer of vinyl? I find that 92 thread does this on a single layer of material try sewing it of 2 layers of material like you would on a french seam.

What size and type of needle are you using? The needle holes look really big to me. Wrong needle size can cause this.

Also over all thread tension being to high can cause this as well. Try backing off both the top tension and the bobbin tension a little and see if that helps.

In my opinion if you are using size 92 thread size 24 and 22 needles are far to big. I typically use size 17 or 18. I would try a smaller needle and see if that helps.

Also the oz on thread is just telling you the amount of thread you are buying. You can purchase size 92 thread in 4oz spools or 16oz spools but they are exactly the same thread. So if your having the problem with one spool and not the other then they are probably 2 different brands.

Thread brand is really important. Cheep thread causes all kinds of problems. I only recommend Coats Ultra DEE bonded Poly, Amman Serabond and Amman Serafill. All other brands I personally have had to many issues with.
