Hello Everyone,

I am soo happy to find this forum. My intention is to completely change my career and get in to the Automotive upholstery business. I always wanted to bring out my creative side.

I would like to ask a few questions here.

1. What features do I have to look for when purchasing a sewing machine? So many out there with huge price differences.
I do not want to buy budget machine. I need something quiet and reliable
2.Are used machines worth considering?
3.What material should I use to create templates what I hoping to re use many times?

I suggest you take the lucky needle apprentice course. It will answer most of your questions and is well worth it for anyone interested in learning. I have learned a lot from it and it talks about types of equipment you’ll need, material, thread, needles etc. just go to the menu at top and click on it. Also a few free videos to get an idea of what you can learn.

As for machine: walking foot industrial or triple transport. However you would like to say it. I would avoid a needle feed they don’t use a walking foot that moves in unison with the needle.

Ditto on everything Coaldigger said. When starting out I would definitely Buy a used machine. There are a lot of them out there. After using one for a while you will learn a lot about the machines. Then I would spend a little more Based on what you learned. Take the course here. No-one will teach you more in a short period of time. Welcome!

It was a lovely useful guide, but I went completely against it. Mainly for budget reasons.

I was about to opt for a Juki DNU 1541. Here in the UK 1541S is not. available.

The price was 1899£ one year warranty. Than the dealer offered me a Jack H2 Made in China with all the Juki feature plus stronger engine 2 years warranty 580£. He guaranteed that the stich quality will be the same as Juki and machine is awesome. Motor electric direct drive, stronger then the Juki.

This is huge difference in price so I ordered one and see how it is. If it is crap I still have the option to return it
