Slip over seat cover material suggestions

I want to make a slip over seat cover/protector for a bench seat in an old pickup. It would be to protect the new upholstery from our 100 pound dog. Anyone have any good material recommendations for something that would be very puncture resistant but also not rough on the backside of the material so it won't hurt the seat finish?

@BigRig I hadn't really thought much about material price. I won't need a lot of it, and its for a personal project. So cost is probably not a big deal. I did find that DLT supply sells the Carhartt jacket material and its only $3.60 per yard. Seems like it would be durable. But I'm sure there are better options.

So if your set on a canvas type material like Carhartt (which is a great option) I would recommend backing it with something soft like felt. I worry that the canvas might be to abrasive on the new upholstery

Otherwise I would recommend using as heavy duty vinyl you can find. Your going to want to look for the heaviest OZ rating you can find. I personally call this stuff tractor vinyl because I use it on tractor seats. Its been a long time since I have purchased this stuff but I think it was around 30 OZ. I would just call around and ask what the most heavy duty vinyl they carry is.

Another option would be car bra vinyl. This comes with a fuzzy backing and is good for protective covers.
