Start over with another machine

Well after posting about my recent purchase of a pfaff 1425 things didn't work out on that machine due to some mechanical issues that i didn't want to deal with.
So...
I found a very nice consew 255rb-2 in good mechanical and cosmetic condition.
With a new 220 servo motor.
Cosmetics not really a big deal.
Anyway question is...
This machine has 2 thread tensioners.
Purpose of 2?
And can i just route around the top left one down to the controller as usual in most machines I'm seeing?
And i know im full of questions but...
Possibly it was used for 138 thread on leather?
If so could i tell if tension springs have been changed?
I know I'm probably worrying about crap that is probably not a issue as long as it's working!

@RC65 I don't know anything about that machine but finding a threading chart should be easy on the internet. If you go ahead and thread and run the machine you can easily look at your stitches and see if the tension is correct. If it is, there is no issue. If it does not do well, then is the time to look for a solution.

Good luck with it.

Thanks John
I appreciate the input for sure.
Seems like it's working with just 1 tensioner for the time being.

Display a picture showing the two thread tension adjusters.

Have the thread on just 1 tensioner in this picture.
Thread route seem ok? (Through guide?)

@RC65 When you use the knee lift to raise your presser foot, does it release the tension on one or both of the tensioners.

I'll check and let you know when I'm at the shop.
Good point and now it has me thinking it does.
By the way i have a foot lift.
Just my preference i guess.

Both released when foot lift is activated.
Has what i would call a wishbone looking piece on the back of the plate to activate it.

Hopefully, you can find a diagram in the net. It obviously was built with the two tensioners.

@RC65 , out of curiosity can you send a picture of the MAX stitch length capability of that machine.

Looks like 4@ 6.5mm
And 24@ 1mm

All the manuals I have seen online for that machine do not have a second tensioner. https://s3.amazonaws.com/a.teamworksale ... MANUAL.pdf

I wonder if maybe your machine had an option to run 2 needles possibly...

I guess that may be a possibility on 2 needles.
From what I've found is that 2 tensioners help with thicker thread sizes to keep tension more stable for thicker materials like leather.
I'm new at all this and that's just what I've read recently.
I've been running v92 through both tensioners and it's been fine.

Yes that is correct about the double tensioners but normally one tensioner is much smaller. I haven't seen 2 full size tensioners on a single needle before. Normally I would say do exactly as the manual would say but thats not really an option here. So if it seems to be working the way you have it Id say go with that.
