Hello All! New here, but I like to do DIY projects in my spare time.

I'm trying to make my own automotive tool pouch from a picture of one I found online and would like to try and find the closest material I can to the original blue vinyl. Can anybody tell what kind of vinyl it's made of? It seems pretty thin to be a faux leather, can it be made that way? Could it possibly be a cloth material on the inside of the bag?

Obviously the front of the pouch is clear vinyl :)

Thank you for your time!

@John, it does to me like the lighter 10 guage. @skyy797 open it up and take a picture of the backing we can tell you pretty fast what it is from that unless that is the backing we are seeing hrough the clear plastic.

Thank you both for the replies! The bag itself was made from the 50s by general motors, would vinyl coated polyester have been available then?

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any pictures of the inside as I do not own the bag. Looking through the clear vinyl is the backing, but you can't see it very well.

Here's a back shot of the bag if it helps.

@skyy797 ,

Take a picture of the side of the vinyl where it has been cut. I really do not see the weave of the polyester in that blue fabric but need a closer look.

This is the best side shot I can find. As you can tell the thickness of both pieces of vinyl are very thin. It's some type of laced fabric coated with vinyl.

@skyy797 ,

Would you say it is like school gym mat material? If so then it is the vinyl coated polyester that John identifies it as.
