Foam Cording OK for furniture?

Hello, all, new guy with another question:

I would like to get into making boat stuff -- curtains, canvas, cushion covers, etc., so I guess the kind of cording I would want to use to make welting would be foam cording since it's more rotproof than paper, is that correct?

Since it's much cheaper in bulk, I was going to get a reel of 5/32" foam cording, but will that also be good for indoor furniture? Not too stiff or anything like that, is it (for its size)?
Also, does "fire resistance" figure into it for indoor furniture?

TIA.

B
