I am looking at this foam for seat repair. How is your experience with this foam? I am looking at this foam for Big Rig seat repair.

Never used it. Looks expensive to use for a seat repair. Any reason your considering this foam over regular foam?

I thought it would be cheaper than regular foam. I seen it in a supply catalouge but there was no prices maybe that why

It’s great for cutting and slicing, I’ve had problems with chunks falling out trying to curve it. Maybe my tecnique.

No I don't think it would be unusual for it to come out in chunks it is made from little chunks I can see that being a really big problem.

I have purchased this type of foam here in Spain at shops similar to Home Depot, and price for a full sheet of 50" x 80" x 1" was like $17. There were several densities and thicknesses available at the insulation section.

This rebond foam works very good, in some ocasions better than regular foam, as I don't have a supplier close to me that carries firm foam. Perhaps insulation rebond foam is different than the one you are talking about that seems to be more expensive?

It was when I read this thread when I discovered that the name of this foam was rebond foam, and it seems that this foam is used for acoustic isolation. The foam is like that:



We have this type of foam in the building material and home improvement shops in Spain, so I'm sure that you will be able to find it easily in the USA. It works really well for upholstery, so I guess that here the upholstery equipment shops will carry it, but I don't have these shops near me...

Unfortunately The Hogring is not for us mere hobbiests to use, that forum is closed to the public.

I could see where rebond foam would be hard to sculpt as it is a recycled material of different densities of foam glued together. In the states they ship foam rolled up with the air sucked out of it. Don't use foam from JoAnn Fabric because it won't last. I use ultra foam from Albany Foam Supply. Their catalog is in .PDF format online. Albright's sent me some foam samples I just wish they had some code on them so I knew what I was looking at. Still lots to learn about foam.

I have Albrights High Density Blue Foam it is really good, trust that for sure. The rebond foam would be good for a seat center if you wanted to give a little extra density for a heavier operator. It will just spit and shred no way sculpting will be easy.

Yes, if I could read what I have indicated is because it seems that it was released before the forum was closed to the general public... thank goodness that some information is still available, as that one, and also, thank you very much to John for founding dis forum open to beginners like us!

Perhaps the rebond foam available in Europe is different, as I have always been able to sculpt it without problems with a knife or angle grinder with sanding discs, with all the different parts of it in their place?
