If I did this type of patterning for an insert option guys would want that everytime I don't think I could recover my labour costs or even the investment in the contract thread from that pattern though.

Ok, changing gears...

I’m starting to think about making an upholstery work table / storage cart. If it wasn’t for the rolls of fabric and foam that need to be kept clean and safe i’d Probably just use a sheet of melamine on sawhorses when I needed it, and then I could stow it at other times.

So the idea here is that this is mobile, the same height as my sewing machine table, has drawers on one end to store supplies like thread and binding, and tools. The drawers are intended to be “modular”, so that I can make them any multiple of 2” deep. I’m still playing with the details. The other end has a couple of 60” deep shelves to store rolls of fabric and foam. I need to play with those dimensions more still too.

I’ll probably add roll holders on the sides so whatever fabric or sew foam I am using can be pulled from there onto the top. Need to add some accessories too, hanger for my glue gun, holders for spray cans, pencil sharpener, probably something to store my long start edge and framing square.

Once I get it dialed in I will share some plans.

I hate running out of bobbin in the middle of a long run. Wish that there was an indicator on machines(or at least the machine that I have) that would let you know when you are low.

It would mean going computerized most likely. Being able to seeinto you bobbin case would help.

The seats in my son’s dart have a cool pattern, I thought I’d try to replicate it. This isn’t accurate, just a visual estimation of the design using some foam scraps glued together.

For the pleats I thought I could just do one lock stitch, but with the #207 thread it’s to obvious. So on the rest of the pleats I pulled the top thread through and tied the ends off on the back. Kind a a pain in the butt, but it worked ok.

I’ll have to try it without the top stitches, or maybe onlytop stitch top pleats. The factory sets are hot stamped (reproductions are available, but that’s no fun).

I think that would work out great and look HOT with just a #92 weighted thread. It looks like you are having fun doing the top stitching

92 would probably look good, just had this set up in he machine and didn’t want to change it. The pleats are a bit wider than “stock” too, it was mostly to try it out.

Yeah unfortunately when you start a stitch like that in the middle of the piece the only choice you have is to manually tie it off from the back. Even with 92 the lock stitch will be noticeable.

Going back to bobbin issues, "IF" the drive wheel turns at a 1:1 ratio with the bobbin winder, theoretically if you had a counter on the drive wheel to count how many rotations were done for bobbin winding couldn't you rest it and when the count got close you would know to replace your bobbin? That way you wouldn't run out of bobbin on a long run.

Or am I just a way off newbie?
