I got the plastic pegboard from Home Depot, they are 16”x16” interlocking. They cost around $6 each. Well worth it IMO since they can be used , moved over and over again. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-16 ... /202249707

Looking good!

Speaking of router bits, have you seen Mobile Solutions templates and other car audio fab stuff? The door panels from their recent class look pretty amazing.

Yeah, I’m in the car audio business. Been using there templates for years. Haven’t been to any of the classes yet, but will in the near future. Yeah I just ordered the new ruler xl, bearing kit and a couple other templates. They make good stuff. For taking builds to the next level, I think you really need a router these days. Some of these guys are taking it even further with the laser and cnc machines. Lot of money invested in tools for sure to go this way. The key is to buy the bits your going to use most. Which in my case is the single 1/4” spiral flush trim bit($35). I have single bits that are close to $200 each. :grinning:

Here is a few videos of the templates and tools I just got. These tools will help you guys build cool door panels and add detail to them as well. They are mostly by car audio fabricators, but goes in line with designing from scratch custom interiors.

I just purchased two 6 foot folding tables from the blue store with the yellow starburst in their logo for $42 each, they have a plastic table top and when placed side by side I have roughly a 5' x 6' out feed table. They are an inch lower than my machine table but I figured that will be ok since I won't have to worry about my work bumping into the edge and folding up on me when it transitions from one to the other or I could simply place shims under the feet to bring it up to level. Just thought I would share, nice table area for under $100 USD.

Ok, I’ve been thinking about what I can do for a work table. I hate to chew up a lot of floor space with an 8’ long table, but I do have room, and I could use it for other work than just upholstery. The big danger (for me anyway) is that any horizontal surface in my shop tends to collect “stuff”. Parts, tools, junk. So having a place to put stuff away is critical.

Features I want in the table then:

1. Storage for materials, parts and tools related to upholstery / interior work. I want cubbies that are 60” long and maybe 6” to 10” tall/wide to store rolls of fabric and scrim. Probable one wide flat area ( say 8” tall by 36” wide by as long as possible to store thick sheets of foam. Also some drawers for storing tools and supplies. I’m thinking that one or two of these craft drawer units (they are 24” tall without the casters) could be built into the table. I could build drawers, but this wold be faster. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Home-Decora ... /202949336. The only issue I see with those is the drawers are not deep enough for spools of thread. Maybe pegboard on one side of the table too to hang stuff, although I’m not usually a pegboard fan.

2. Same height as my machine table, in my case 33.5”

3. Roll holder. I’m thinking about a pair of detachable arms and a cross-bar to hold a roll of fabric so I can unroll a section, cut, and then roll up the rest without it taking up space on the table. That could be handy. Detachable / storable is important so they are not always in the way

4. Wheels so I can move it around easily

Anything else you guys would add? I’ll have to draw this up in CAD this weekend.

@Joemcglynn it will be Sunday before I get home to take a pic of my setup and post it but I made a wall rack for my fabric and foam. It steps off the wall maybe 2 1/2 feet but everything is stored on closet rods and J hooks laying horizontal but stacked vertically if this makes sense.

@Bondo497 ,

Hey Bondo I really need to see that set up. I seriously need some organization in that department.

@BigRig I don't have a lot of material at this time but as I get more I will just keep going down the wall. The rolls of foam take up the most real estate.

Ahh, cool. Thanks for posting that, I was having trouble picturing it. Nice setup. Those Mobile Solutions tools are petty cool, definitely on my shopping list for the future. I’ll need to set up a better router table though. I used to have a really nice router table setup and sold it in a moment of weakness. Dumb move.

Yeah they are pretty cool. Just make the job easier creating shapes , designs and details. Yeah I have the same router lift and table for about 5 years now. I use a 3hp portercable motor and the Jessum Master lift II with Incra magna Locking rings for fast ring changes. Then I just got the Rockler table top and legs. I will make a post of most of my of my equipment I use on daily basis. Also a few years ago I almost sold my router lift when I thought about getting out of car audio installation. Decided to give it another try, glad I did.
