I was hoping to do some embossing or embroidery on some seats I am refurbishing and I wondered how you guys do it?

I have seen that you can buy leather embossing stamps but presumably a lot of manufacturers' logos are copyrighted and are therefore hard to find suitable stamps for. Ideally I would like to find something with the Recaro logo.

Do you guys do the embroidery work yourselves? I'm guessing its not really worthwhile for a smaller shop to invest in a commercial embroidery machine and presumably the domestic embroidery machines aren't really suitable for car upholstery so do you guys send your covers to a specialist shop and do they also have issues with copyrights and have issues with not being able to produce certain designs?

@ajnegus I don't know about leather or embossing.
I just had this done on vinyl.
What I do know is if you need something embroidered exact you will have to pay to have it digitized.
I settled with as close as she could get and my customer is happy.
Copyright is tricky some places will replicate some won't. Be sure to find out your cost before quoting.

That looks really great! I guess its up to the individual how they feel about copyrights/trademarks etc.

It seems that you can buy domestic embroidery machines that are quite capable and are able to upload files and print from those. These machines are supported by a number of websites which have various logos and templates available so I guess this is the way forward, here is an example of a website and a template that are available to upload to your machine if required:

As for the embossing perhaps it is necessary to have the stamps custom made, I found a Polish company who make certain car logos and I think they will make whatever you want:

Ive never done any embossing before. Looks like a lot of work.

Embroidery is relatively cheep. The digitizing is usually around $50 and the embroidery is usually around $20. Ive never had a place give me any trouble with copyrights. I mean if you think about it. Why would a manufacture waste time on something that small. Especially when your actually promoting the brand by fixing up the car nicer. If you were mass producing seat covers you might run in to problems then.

Just a Susy says the logo may be copyright protected. I run into this almost everytime I am trying duplicate something.

I support!
I did pretty good embroidery on my home embroidery machine. Although I have the most common Brother SE1900 model (anyone interested in studying its characteristics can read here), I bought it as a beginner. And this machine did a good job with the dense fabric. But honestly, a more experienced person (my mother) helped me with the printing of letters. By the way, we used the second site from the massage above. But with this question it will be difficult for me to give advice, I still have not figured it out to the end.

Photo, unfortunately, there is only poor quality
