I'm a little slow moving at his upholstery stuff, but I did finally complete my first project. You can guess which is before and which is after. The first person that looked at it said "you're palm trees on the fabric are going sideways!" I didn't think it would be as noticeable, but it was the only way to have enough of the fabric I bought to finish the project.

I'm not 100% pleased with how the piping turned out at the corners. I made my own piping, but didn't pre-sew it; I sewed it on the large panels as I went, which seemed to help keep the needle from jamming due to too much threads. I used 1/4" plastic piping and slit the corners before sewing them but just couldn't get the nice sharp corners I wanted. It looks so easy on youtube when these 90 year old ladies with arthritis do it. Anybody else have trouble with this?

Looks good
Will 1/4" plastic piping even make a sharp 90% ? I have been using 5/32 polyester cording and it will bend a 90% but i am not sure if it will hold up as long out doors

Looks good! I wouldn’t worry too much about the palm trees. Chalk it up to a learning curve of ordering a bit more than you think. Yes 1/4” seem rather thick for corners. I like 1/8” myself for most things. I feel this would be easier to handle in the corners.

I don’t think anyone is 100% satisfied with there own work. I don’t think this is a bad thing either. It means you want to improve and learn. But you have to find the good in all you do also.

    , we were waiting for this Joe. I was about to just drive down pick up that junker of a truck you dont want    and check on how your project was going. This is not easy stuff to master and those 90 year olds did not start yesterday aslo they collect in sewing groups and challenge heir skills mostly once a week.

Thanks, BigRig. If you're talking about this junker of a truck, it's gone---a neighbor gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. I'm working my upholstery skills up to redoing the entire interior on the '54 bomb. What sold me on John's video series was that his project car is a '53 Chev---like having a personal tutor. . .

@JoeTheRoofer Man, a 54! Of the early 50’s chevy’s that one of my favorite. Slight chop and drop it in the weeds and walk away. Low and slow is okay by me! But that’s cool that the video is pretty much catered to a car you have!
