After doing a boat cover with a standard machine, about 12" of room , i'm thinking long arm. Anyone ever do all of their stitching on a long arm? Having two could be a pain to deal with, space being a possible issue. If a long arm can do it all then why not just have a long arm???

I haven’t done it personally but I do know another upholsterer who did just that. Sold his regular machine and bought a NC long arm machine and uses it for everything.

I looked at them last night, first one to pop up was the sailright fabricator, so I watched a video about it. It's not a ll that when it comes to long arm, 13" . I'm thinking more like 20" or more. If you just want to do a simple stitch of two 8' panels that's fine and dandy, but if you want to run webbing across that seam for tie downs, that's a bunch of material to pass under a sewing machine., even one at 12-13". I'll be spending my nights searching, checking reviews and looking for a good unit.

I think the largest obstacle in getting a long arm is price and trying to get $ back on your original machines investment. You are looking at a few thousand for a 20" plus long arm. I am not familiar with the NC brand but will look. FOr the meantime occupy yourself by looking at these originals and chinese knowckoffs of them. Consew 206 RBL-30 and the Juki LG-158. My applications are not going to be anything other than automotive and the Tx 138 thread so that Juki is too much machine for me but I do like the Consew concept. I think its best to really question why 10. 000 pros have not got a long arm? Let me know what you find, there is nothing around even old as dirt for less than $3000 that I can find.

I looked at those NC long arms. I think honerable mention and goood value as your exchange on the dollar would make this a bargain. techsew long arm machine $4100.00, Thats about $3000.00 for you

Yes long arms are nice and you can certainly do all you stitching on one. The reason most people dont is because the are quite a bit more expensive to buy.
