Hi, I recently purchased a juki Lu 1508 and I have been happy with it so far. I ordered a welting foot for it, but when it arrived, it would not fit. Following further investigation I discovered that the foot was correct . It was the presser bar and foot on the machine that seem to be Adler type.
My question is, Is this a common thing to do and for what reason ?... Are the Adler and Juki presser bars interchangeable ?

I am very new to all of this and I have just realised that I have posted it on the Automotive section. I don't know how to move it to a more appropriate category.
sorry.

Adlers are made in Germany and Jukis are from Japan so It seems unlikely there’s any cross over. If you didn’t buy your foot from a Juki dealer I’d say it’s probably Chinese made and who knows what it’s really made to fit.

Usually I only buy the manufactures parts to avoid these situations, and when things don’t fit right they make sure to make things right.

Thanks for your help and comments, I will add some more photos tomorrow. I don't think the machine is a clone/copy, all the ancillary parts are genuine Juki too (I think). If it were a Chinese copy, I am sure it would make more sense to keep the presser bar a juki style bar... Much simpler than the type that is on it. Thanks again guys.

I have been in touch with the guy I bought the machine from and he told me he bought the machine from a reputable machine shop. He had also asked the same questions and was assured everything was fine... Just us Adler feet. Maybe the original owner had a shop full of Adler machines with feet and parts for Adlers, so it made sense to do the modification. The machine was made in Japan and could be almost 20 years old, so it will have had a life.
My main concern is whether the settings in the engineers manual are all still applicable ?. I am happy with the machine and will decide later whether to reverse the mods and return it to stock.
Thanks for your comments and advice.

Hi @Plh Welcome to the forum!

Thats is very strange. I have never seen a Juki take that style of feet before. I cant think of any reason to change the presser bar to that style... If the machine works with the Adler feet you should be just fine and all the settings should still be applicable. Thats a nice machine you have there. You will be happy with it once you get some feet that fit it.

Thanks John, yes, I think it is a good machine, very happy with it. It is my first machine and I am only just beginning to get to know it. I am, as I have said, just curious about the reasons behind the mod. I am beginning to think that the presser bar could possibly be a juki or brother bar from another model that just so happens to allow the use of Adler feet. I have seen presser bars for both companies with similar fitting. I have contacted the company who the previous owner bought it from, but have not received a reply yet.
