I see John uses the old school scissors in his videos and was wondering what everyone else is using. I was a naysayer about spending big bucks on scissors then I discovered Kai scissors. I now own I think 9 pairs in all sizes and will be buying more in the spring when I get busy.

@Jayscanvas ,

Use what can be re-sharpened. A hobbiest can use almost anything but when your cutting layers of material WISS not sure on the |Kai you have never used them.

Try a pair of Kai you will never use Wiss again. They do take a little time getting used to them because they are so sharp and precise. Yes they they can be sharpened but not needed all the time like regular scissors.

Also when you first start using Kai scissors you will cut yourself as you are not used to sharp scissors

Yeah I have used Kai before. Personally I didn't see the justification for the price. Also I like how the weight of wiss shears helps cut through the fabric. With the kai I noticed It made my hands more tired. But Yes kai shears are defiantly better quality. Some people love them some prefer the old school wiss.
Lol man I hate that feeling when you cut youself with your scissors!

Yes the price is hard to shallow at first I used them at a canvas class I took and was hooked I now have over $500 invested in them this year and will most likely buy a lot more of them next season. It’s like anything else the right tools cost money.

Thats cool! What canvas class did you take? I always use a hot knife to cut canvas.

I just splurged on a pair of Ginghers lol I thought $35 was expensive. But there is nothing more frustrating than dull scissors. I used to be a dog groomer and good scissors are worth the price. I just don't know enough yet to know what I want/need for upholstry work. I Just know fiskers no longer cut it (pun intended)

I actually bought a set of mundial scissors I picked up from pyramid trim. Works great. Not over pricey. Not sure what it was I paid anymore but I feel it was the $30 range.

@Stiffchick Your Ginghers will be great for you. Once you start doing a lot more wore you may want to try out the Kai shears for your self. up to you.

John the last class I took was Hood canvas it was great it paid for it’s self on the first job I did. I am taken another in February with them . Cutting with a hot knife is not as precise so depending on the piece I cut first with sissors then seal the edges with a hot knife.
