When you start with a square pleated panel and cut it to a pattern shape, how do you handle the cut topstitching? I'm concerned it will unravel even after sewing it closed to another piece. I don't see anyone carefully tying off threads at the cut line. Thanks.

I actually sew over it twice, once at the edge to secure the foam, and then with a closing seam to another piece. But that first stitching might get trimmed if the seam allowance is too bulky in a curve (which is why the panel was cut in the first place for a pattern).

I once had to cut topstitching in the field of a panel to install seatbelt grommets. I was so worried it would unravel that I pulled and tied the cut threads. It was probably not necessary but I'll take the peace of mind.

For pleats or diamonds, like you mentioned, i'll mark it out and sew the perimeter at 1/4inch before cutting. Then my 3/8 construction seam hides it. Never found the need for more than that
