I am building a couple mission style chairs from scratch out of walnut. I have a woodworking shop. I've never made seats like this before, but have some experience with upholstery and my wife is an experienced seamstress.

Please see the image for the seat design that came with the plan. Plan calls for a 5" coil, I assume 9 ga? I weigh @ 240 lbs and other furniture we've had that has had spring coils in the cushions have been uncomfortable for me to sit on. Might be poor foam padding inside the cushion?

On the pdf you can see the layers of materials he puts over the springs, but there is only a 2" thick layer of foam. Not sure this is enough to be comfortable for me. Not sure what density foam would be good.

So 9 ga springs? Thicker foam less other stuff? What density foam? Any other comments suggestions to put me on the right track.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Brian

Thanks. Lot of work! Curved slats out of 3 pcs of 1/8" thick material glued together in a fixture was something new for me. Did my test jig and slats using poplar to make sure I could do it. Brian
