Can I get some advice on cutting inside corners? I just can't get them square. I've tried the heat gun on the leather. Maybe not enough? But I'm not sure where to put my relief cuts. I need the edges to be neatly covered.

What I get.... :slight_frown:. It should be a 1/2" corner.

@kl4bidn im not sure I’m following right, but I’ll give it a shot. I always try to make sure there is a slit in the apex of the corner to really pull that area in. But then I space more slits our from there. Sometimes you need more slots sometimes less. I feel the tighter the corner the more you need. I don’t really work with leather but I think a heat gun with dry heat actually makes the leather harder to work. I think you need to steam it. If you don’t have a steamer you can buy a damp towel in the microwave for a few minutes then set that in the leather to loosen it up.

If I’m reading this right, I’d mark the exact size of the square cutout on the backside of the leather (assume my red lines are the same size of your cutout) from there mark from corner to corner MINUS the thickness of what you are wrapping around. If there is more shape or it’s not playing nice just cut a few more slots like the dotted lines, glue and pull on the tabs to fasten. Make sense?

Wrapping inside 90s is a pain in the but. what I do is cut a small tail in to the corner about 1/8 to 1/4. Steam the fabric get it nice and soft. then stretch the tail up and around the the inside corner. Sometimes hit helps to press the round part of a small screw driver in to the corner as you pulling the tail up and around.
After pull and stretch the other parts around.

This is a great video topic. I will try to do this soon!

Thanks John. Insides, outsides, curves. Skiving leather without a machine would be helpful too.
