Bob has been dead for 20 years but was a good friend. He also converted a 26’ box van to a portable shop. He had a sewing table, machine, a/c and excellent lighting. He could drive up to the marina, plug in, measure the job and sew it on location. He made it a point to maintain excellent relations with the marina staff and was usually welcome to leave the truck on sight if he had several jobs to do.

Wow! A hover table. I would love one of those. I am new to this forum and saw this table subject matter. I am about to build a 4x8 Melamine table with castor wheels that will lock on one end. I have limited space and this will fit for now but I did buy supplies to build a second 4x8 melamine table that will eventually expand the first one.

My question to the panel of experts is this...... what should the ideal working height of my work bench be? 36 inches? 32inches? I just purchased a newly refurbished consew 206rb1 work horse with table and non clutch motor which I love.
Stitches real clean and nice. I only want to build this table once so I want to be sure I get it right. Appreciate any feedback on that. Take care folks.

You first want to set you sewing machine table to a comfortable working height for you then build your layout table to match that height so that you can back your machine up to the table. This will help when sewing large pieces.

Hello everyone, new member here, first post, here is my work in progress, still need to find enough glass to cover the table, it is 109 x 80 inches on castors, I used IKEA Trofast as bases to give storage space, added shelves on the bottom for storing fabric rolls, the whole table is on castors so I can use all sides to trace and cut the fabric, I will be using glass on the top as I mainly do boat canvas and use a hot knife to cut my sunbralla and other fabrics.
I also built a small table for my Adler patcher.
We just moved in this house and I am slowly settling up my workshop

Welcome fred, well done! If i may...that'll be one hell of a piece of glass and i tend to drop things :joy: . Consider urethane for the table tops. 4 coats, sanding in between. Makes a nice hard, smooth surface with very low drag. The hot knife will however leave scars on the table. It killed me to make those first few burn marks on a pristine finish, but eventually they blend together and adds character imo. Every mark tells a story. Doesn't last forever of course, you'll want to sand and re coat every 10 or 15 years. Great set up you have there

The glass will be in a few panels, it wouldn’t fit inside otherwise
