I have some basic upholstery experience but have been asked to recover a friends chair and I’m struggling. Can anyone give me some ideas on how to recover but avoiding the puckering that exists in the curved part of the seat. The new fabric has very little stretch.

relief cuts are my friend , sometimes I just really have to work with material to get it to lay the best you can sometimes its the way you cut it out. Materials will have a little more stretch in one direction.

Upholstering can be tricky, especially with less stretchy fabric. One tip to avoid puckering on curved seats is to use small, even pleats or gathers around the curves. It helps distribute the fabric without stretching it too much. Also, make sure to secure the fabric tightly but not overly stretched when stapling. Patience is key—take your time to smooth out any wrinkles as you go.

If possible, select a four-way stretch upholstery fabric, such as vinyl or Sunbrella. These materials can be pulled and stretched to fit irregular forms and curves, making it much easier to achieve a clean finish without puckering. It's one of my suggestion.
