I'll be starting my seat cushions and have a center section that is pleated. I plan on using scrim foam and sewing the pleats and have a few questions.

First what thickness would be appropriate? The pleats will be 3/4" or 1" wide, recalling from memory so am not sure. I'm leaning towards either 1/4" or maybe 3/16", I think 1/2" might be too thick for the narrow pleats.

Second, any suggestions on what to use? I'm talking about type of foam and backing material. Since this is a boat, it will get wet however the boat is normally garage kept and may stay on the water a week out of the year.

I had pleated sections in one of my other boats years ago that were sewn by an upholstery shop so I know it held up for about 15 years with my type of use.

I did my boats pleats with 1/2" but they were about 2"s wide.

When I did the rat rod, the diamond pleating om the seats were done with 1/2" but I though that was too "plump" for the door panels so I used 1/4" there.

Really all depends on how much definition?fullness you want them to have.

As for what to use, I just bought the pink scrim foam from amazon. I had no issues or complaints with it and would use it again.
