Was there a last change you made before it started acting up, like needle change? I find most problems are caused by me changing something like a needle and getting the size wrong or other operator errors.

Did you sew through a lot of heavy layers…… I always check, lubricate and time the bottom end , add new needle and reset tensions. If your sewing through a lot of glue or tape it can gum up and cause problems

i used this machine every day sometimes all day and it was like driving a caddilac...soòoo smooth
then i noticed a skipped stitch once in awhile.
then more often..eventually i had to resew every seam..so i pulled out my consew.
but while i was using the pfaff i did try needle after needle.it would stop skipping for a couple seams then skip a stitch.sometimes it would skip right away so i really couldnt tell if it was the needle.
however, i took it to a shop, when i got it back it had a really thin needle in it and was told it never skipped while they used it. but i cant use one of those thin needles for what i do. so as soon as i put a bigger needle in it it skipped again.
the skipped stitch wouldnt be that big of a deal if i only used the machine for doing small furniture jobs or sewing quilts or my own personal stuff,
but i use it to sew custom seat covers for show cars and motorcycle seats with fancy colored stitches that i cant go back and fill in one stitch because it causes an imperfection in the stitchline. on a motorcycle seat it would be very noticable.
so my frustration with this was causing me to lose sleep..i really miss using that machine , like i said,
like driving a caddilac....
oh i forgot to mention, if i listened , i could hear it skip a stitch..i could hear everytime it made a complete stitch then when it skipped it cause a pause in the repetative sewing sound
tap tap tap tap(?)tap tap tap.does that make sense.?

p.s
if its timing i wouldnt feel confident enough to do than myself. i actually thought it might be the needle bar because it started having a hard time going thru anything thicker than usual and the screw holding the needle in didnt seam to tighten like it should so i bought a new one but scared to try and install it myself

I’m probably known to blame timing first but it has been the most common fault with any of my machines, I attribute it to them slowly going out of time just from continually excessive pressure of being forced over heavy layers. If you have any mechanical skills then learning to set your timing is just like learning anything else….. the first couple times it’s extremely slow but once you understand the process and know the specs it’s simple and goes quick.

This video isn’t how to set your timing but rather understand your timing ( I’m pretty sure he has one for setting up the Phaff 1245) he does make mention of hearing when things are wrong. I stress I’m not saying you issue is definitely timing but it’s nice to be able to have the skills so we don’t have to take it in.

I put off learning how to do it but live in a remote community and had to wait till the mobile mechanic came to town or take a few hours and go for a long drive, after a few of them and after spending good money without the issue being resolved I decided it was time to learn.

ìve seen this video before .i wish the guy would talk and explain things rather than trying to read the subtitles.....if it were timing , why does it only skip one stitch out of about 100+ stitches? could it be that i need to replace the hook? because the timing is perfect.this things sews fantastic ...it doesnt even make sense how it could sew a hundred perfect stitches then skips one
