Never really sewed with a walking foot before, man it's a beast. Just completed my first mat using extra thick carpet with leather binding and leather heel pad. Got the custom made embroidery for my car. Pretty pleased with it!

That looks real nice. How is the Corrado lettering applied and where did you get them? How about the materials as well, I have an Audi and the drivers side mat is worn, seeing your post makes me think this is something I could tackle.

Thank you very much, I'm pleased with it but it's my first ever mat so I can judge myself that well I guess...

So it was a little bit complicated because my car is rare, I could not find any high-end looking mats, only found cheap ones on ebay. That's how I got the idea of doing it myself instead.

I bought a universal kit for 4 mats at a shop who makes car mats. It came in one big rectangle with the studded rubber mat glued onto the backside. I chose Essex carpet, it's the thicker one.

For the embroidery, I had to Peel off the studded rubber from the carpet. That took a minute. Then after cutting the shapes, I brought them to an embroidery shop. They had a scanner and they scanned my car emblem. You can get someone on Fiverr to make the file too. Anyways, what's key if you want a clean result on to make a base embroidery first. Basically it's the shadow of your embroidery but about 3/16 wider all around. That gives you the clean look as it keeps the carpet away.

After that, i warmed up the the studded rubber glue with a heat gun and glued back the carpet onto it. I shaved all the studs in the 1" perimeter to sew properly. Then leather binding it. The heel leather part is made with thick tooling leather.

Like I said it was a process... In my case it was worth it but if nice mats are available for you car well think about it twice lol. For sure I would not make money with those! Cheers

I think you did great ! The first time you do something , its a learning experience . sometimes I think the only way to learn upholstery is doing it. A lot of my customers. Ask me to do something I tell them well never done one. But I'll figure it out.. lol For some crazy reason they trust me..

Thank you very much! Yes it's definitely a learning curve, I'm new to upholstery and I agree doing it is the way to go. A walking foot machine really opens up the possibilities. Like you, I do believe that I can analyze things and make it happen. I'm a carpenter lol. Anyways, next project will be those Recaro seats and I hope they turn out well.
